You either do it now or not at all. And Marianna Oikonomou (<em>Food for Love<\/em>) did. It is an important story unfolding in a juvenile prison in the city of Volos, in Greece, where the director enjoyed access \u2013\u00a0which is not a common occurrence at all. The film was already presented at the 10th International Dok Leipzig Co-Production Meeting in October 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an interview that the director, Marianna Oikonomou, gave me at the 17th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in the aftermath of receiving the award for best Doc in Progress in March 2015.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F197986285&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=true&show_comments=true&color=false&show_user=true&show_reposts=false\"><\/iframe>\n<p>The story follows two teenagers, a Syrian from Kobani and a Yazidi from Northern Iraq, who spend their long days in a juvenile prison in Greece, accused of smuggling illegal immigrants, while their parents experience \u00a0the war in their home countries. <em>The Longest Run<\/em>\u00a0 follows their lives\u00a0 before, during,\u00a0 and after their court case and exposes the \u00a0tragic \u00a0phenomenon of professional smugglers forcing\u00a0 underage illegal immigrants to transport\u00a0 people across the border from Turkey to Greece,\u00a0 thus making them smugglers themselves.
